Sensational Secondary Characters
This Blog Hop could not have come at a more perfect time. The sequel to my breakthrough chick lit, When Girlfriends Break Hearts, has been released today!! When Girlfriends Step Up is a labor of love that I am beyond enthusiastic to release; and given the nature of the Blog Hop it is only super appropriate that I blog a bit about the sensational group of girlfriends from my series.
A supporting cast to a leading lady is just as important as the “Miss in the Spotlight,” wouldn’t you agree? Where would Carrie be without Samantha? (I highly recommend Bushnell’s recent Summer and the City. Loved it!!) And then, naturally, where would either of them be without head-strong Miranda and down-to-Earth Charlotte? Supporting characters…sensational secondary characters…really make a story coalesce. And don’t we all love a good book that sucks us in, leaving us feeling as if we know all of the characters? Like they’re our own friends?
The major secondary character to my protagonist (Robin) in When Girlfriends Step Up is Lara. And, let me say (without giving much away), that without Lara, Robin would still be cramped in a small apartment in a rambunctious part of Seattle with a baby on the way. Without Lara, Robin wouldn’t have that big sister—that essential support—to help her along as she makes some very big decisions. Without Lara, Robin would be up a creek without a very reliable paddle. Lara is to Robin what Ethel Mertz is to Lucy Ricardo. Lara would definitely be there in the candy factory stuffing chocolates in her hat and blouse as fast as she could because that’s what her BFF got herself into. There for each other, no matter how obscure or difficult a situation.
Of course, as with any good chick lit, what would a book (or the leading lady) be without a full-on supporting cast of amazing characters? With another best friend, Sophie, Robin learns the meaning of true friendship…and the power of forgiveness. They’ve had a rocky road (it’s all in When Girlfriends Break Hearts), but now is the time for the girls to do what they do best—stick together and help each other out. Period.
Robin’s other three dear friends, Claire, Emily, and Jackie, not only provide Robin with support and encouragement, but they wholeheartedly give what all women need: laughter and a great girls’ night! When the going gets tough, Robin can look to her entire supporting cast and weep like a baby on their shoulders and pout like there’s no tomorrow because they are, in one solid word, sensational! And, of course, when everything in the world seems to be going smoothly, Robin can always—always—turn to her girlfriends for a toast, a hug, and a reassurance that they are all best friends forever because that’s what sensational ladies do, after all!
